Born and raised in Michigan, owner Rod Kuncaitis grew up enjoying the Michigan outdoors. Whether sailing on the S.S. Badger with his grandfather or camping in the Upper Peninsula, whether grilling or gardening, he’s always looking for ways to spend time outside. Actually, it was one of his outdoor adventures that inspired GeoCamo.
In 2013, Rod was on his way to deer camp in the U.P. Sitting in a truck cab filled with camouflaged clothes and gear, he started fiddling with his GPS. As he zoomed out, the entire state of Michigan filled the screen. Then he accidentally brushed the screen, the image rotated, and Rod had his “A-ha!” moment – what if he layered different configurations and colors of Michigan to create a camouflage pattern?
And that’s how GeoCamo was born.
With more than 25 years of experience in the marketing/promotional products industry, Rod had the resources and references needed to get started. Focusing on quality, he put his patterns on basic 50/50 cotton blend t-shirts, as well as tri-blend and wicking shirts, creating comfortable, one-of-a-kind clothing that appeal to athletes, beach goers, hunters, grandparents – anyone wanting to show their Michigan pride.
Rod continues to work in the marketing/promotional products industry while working on expanding GeoCamo’s product line. When he’s not working, he volunteers at church, with the Williamsburg Emergency Services Auxiliary, and East Bay Masonic Lodge. He is an active member of the Acme Business Association (named the 2017 ABA Volunteer of the Year) and the Elk Rapids Chamber of Commerce. He’s also extremely devoted to the women in his life – his daughter, step-daughter, granddaughter, and – his lighthouse – his wife, Kim.
